Model Engineers Workshop” describes how our Edge Technology Indicator holder is used to fix a DTI onto a mill. Peter shares his smart solution for the difficulty of finding a solid fixing point for a DTI on his Alpine mill. He found a spare 3/8” chuck and 3/8” internal thread in his collection and set about fitting the z axis sender mounting, leaving approximately 30mm studding extra. He then proceed to merely turning down a piece of 12x1.75mm studding. A 3/8” x 24 thread was cut on opposite side of the chuck and they joined together with a 12mm extension nut. This solution allowed him to clamp a range of bracket fittings in addition to this initial purpose. The Wixey WR360 digital angle gauge has been featured in “Model Engineers Workshop” for an interesting application. The article consists of Howard Lewis’ use of the digital angle gauge as an aid to sharpen drills. He began by using a clamp to set it parallel to the face of the grinding wheel. The aluminium is then milled to a rectangular block, set at 59 degrees with the assistance of the WR360. Once a tip angle of 118 degrees is positioned, the vice is tilted up at 45 degrees for a 90 degree vee to be cut by the end mill. This is just one useful example of how our Wixey digital angle gauge can be used to execute a task comfortably with precision. There has been a fantastic article written by one of our customers who purchased the Vertical Linear Digital Scale for his milling machine to eliminate backlash.
“On my machine, even with the spindle bearings correctly adjusted, there is around a millimetre (40 thou in imperial) of backlash, I assume this slack must be in the rack and pinion, the effect of this is that the quill clamp always needs to be slightly tightened putting additional pressure on the rack and pinion making it harder to move the quill. Failure to clamp the quill can result in a chattering cutter that can drift up and down when machining. I have seen people fit springs to hold the quill rack up against the pinion but spring rates change as the
As seen on Episode 24, Series 4 of The Repair Shop - Music box maestro, Stephen Kember is on hand to welcome an unusual item into the barn: a wooden bench from Switzerland, with two carved bears, proudly standing sentinel on either side of a seat that plays a tune when sat upon.
Our Ultrasonic Cleaner features in this episode to clean the musical mechanism (called the Guvnor) which helps regulate the speed the mechanism turns. Stephen says; “This is a lovely and gentle way of shaking all of the debris out of the Guvnor and all of the congealed oil out of the bearings. It will do a lovely job and there will be no abrasion, no risk from cleaning of scrubbing, it’s just going to do its job.” As the musical mechanism is then taken out after the cleaning cycle has finished, Stephen says; “We’ve got a beautifully sparkly clean Guvnor…

The world of F1 is the pinnacle of technology in sport, which is why the best equipment and most precise measuring tools are used across all F1 teams.
In a video posted by Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport, it shows Valtteri Bottas being shown around PETRONAS University of Technology in Brackley, including a demo of the Baty SM350 Vertical Profile Projector. Precision and accuracy is an extremely high priority when working with the engineering of a Formula 1 car, hence why Baty Profile Projectors such as the one mentioned can be found in workshops such as those in the PETRONAS University of Technology.
